BIOGRAPHY
Roby Roberts is the CEO of R+L Carriers, a global transportation company headquartered in Wilmington, Ohio, with over 120 service center locations. Founded in 1965 by the late Larry Roberts Sr., the younger Mr. Roberts shares his father's principles, treating employees as an extension of the company family. He cultivates a workplace culture around four core values: family, service, safety and quality.
Growing up in small-town Wilmington, Roby experienced the rapid growth of R+L Carriers under his father's stewardship. Between his early involvement with the trucking business, as well as his consistent equestrian activities, he grew an appreciation for both urban and rural life.
A lifelong horseman, his mother, Quarter Horse breeder Mary Roberts, inspired his passion for horses. Roby Roberts campaigned on the American Quarter Horse Association circuit as a young rider and kept this interest through the present day.
His hard-working personality, combined with the hands-on business approach of Larry Roberts Sr., influenced Roby to become a cross-industry difference maker. In 2016, with the help of his wife Jennie, the rider turned trucking CEO rebranded Roberts Arena as World Equestrian Center (WEC) - a multipurpose event and sporting venue with locations in Ocala, Florida, and Wilmington, Ohio.
More than just a competition space, Roby envisioned WEC as a hospitality venue fit for the whole family. The current facility offers visitors on-site restaurants, artisan vendors, lodging and spa amenities, a gathering space for riders and spectators alike.
Throughout his trucking company, Mr. Roberts prioritizes enhancing customer service and making resources available for every inquiry. The modern-day R+L Carriers is among the highest ranked LTL shipping providers in service "value," a testament to the company's competitive rates compared to other businesses, as well as pricing commensurate with the service level required by customers.
